"The eclectic, acoustic-oriented sounds of Pink Martini have never been easy to categorize, but that hasn't prevented the Portland, Oregon-based band from acquiring a loyal, enthusiastic cult following. Pink Martini have offered a risk-taking blend of jazz (mainly swing), world music, cabaret, lounge, and '40s-'50s film music, with influences ranging from Cole Porter and Duke Ellington to French icon Edith Piaf to Latin greats such as Xavier Cugat, Beny Moré, and Tito Puente. Excerpted from Pink Martini's live concert at Edgefield in Portland, "Over the Valley" is a Pink Martini original song, with lyrics inspired by the view from China Forbes's home. It first appeared on the band's fourth studio album Splendor in the Grass. Filmed on a rainy day in September 2021, soon after the band started touring again after a long hiatus during quarantine, this performance features lead singer China Forbes, violinist Nicholas Crosa, and bandleader/pianist Thomas Lauderdale, a peaceful moment from an epic 3-hour concert that was also broadcast to the band's fans online.
